There's way too much "moms should be exactly like this!" in our society. It does seem like no matter what you do as a parent, someone will judge you and find you lacking. How did we get to be so judgmental of mothers?

(I see it as part of the underlying sexism of our views on childcare... Women get constant criticism for not being perfect at these roles, while men who do anything to help with raising kids are seen as amazing.)

Penelopes last blog post..<a href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/invisibleteacher/~3/291665125/what-would-time-traveler-use-to-keep.html" rel="nofollow">What would a time-traveler use to keep a journal?</a>

Susan -
I can SO understand! My daughter cried a few times and told me "I want to go to Laura's house!" when I was home on a day off. Ouch. As for judging, each kid knocked more of that behavior out of me. I'm to the point where I'll see a mother TOTALLY out of control at a store and I'll just think, "in her shoes, in her shoes, in her shoes" and remember what people must think of me when I attempt to go out in public with both of my kids - it's chaos :-) As for nursing/not nursing, bring that one on - I could rant for DAYS over evil judgmental people :-) So happy you're writing with us!

If it helps any, I'm a SAHM and with my kids pretty much every waking moment (and sleeping ones, too, since the baby sleeps on me) and my 3 year old has taken to calling me "Michelle" lately. So try not to read too much into that. :)

Good reminder about how not everyone can breastfeed. I wouldn't be so crass as to actually _say_ something about it but I know I've found myself thinking a thing or two when I see people dishing out formula for their newborns.
