I too am a second wife, and stepmom (though my stepson is now grown). I experienced the treatment you describe from the in-laws, though only for the first several years of the the marriage. It got better, eventually... but it was very hard, at first. Anyway, I would have commented over there, on THAT blog of yours, but I'm blocked from doing so here.
