Dads Count Too!

Father's Day Gift Guide

It’s officially June! How’d that happen? As the month of moms is now over (sadly), I’ve been thinking about compiling some great ideas for Father’s Day, and Katja Presnal of Skimbaco shared this GREAT Father’s Day Gift Guide from Christine at From Dates to Diapers that gave me a great place to start in looking for gifts! It’s definitely worth checking out.

Also, I received an email from Type-A Mom about the brand-new social networking site for DADS! It’s called Dadosphere and is just getting started - pass the word on to the the daddies in your life - they deserve a taste of all the fun we have here, don’t they?

It might sound sappy, but I truly am lucky to have such a wonderful husband and my kids are EXTREMELY lucky to have such a wonderful father……being a mom is hard work, but I try not to forget that being a dad is too.

  1. As a proud papa (and daddy-blogger), I very much appreciate the title of the post…

…although (said with a genuine smile) I have never spent a single day as a father thinking that only one half of the parent spectrum ‘counted’.

That being said (adding a humble tone here), when push comes to shove, I’d rate my wife’s own instincts as the very definition of what I am trying to accomplish daily as a parent on behalf of our 21 month old son.

Nice to see the Dadosphere link above. Makes me wonder, however, where the sidebar daddy-blogger links are on this wonderful collaborative site you have built. Granted, the focus is clearly about the mom-perience (and it should be). That being said, it might make even more sense to link to daddy-bloggers that you know are 100% on board with the passion that each of you bring as mommy-bloggers.

A good friend and teaching colleague of mine is about ready to be a new mother (come Nov). Much of her on-going challenge is to help her husband begin to grasp what he is about ready to experience; it has been really helpful for her to be able to share everything from daddy-blogger links to Robert Wilder’s irreverent book called “Daddy Needs a Drink”.

Heck, you might even find a few of the fellas that would be willing to be guest bloggers here, offering our own insights as to how impressed we are by the very moms we celebrate in our own homes, as well as the occasional papa perspective on raising kids from the other side of the gender line.

Again, thanks for the dad-centric post (and title). We fellas appreciate it, and even more so appreciate the partners-in-parenting-crime we have in our own homes. Ultimately, that is what gives our kiddos a fighting chance at falling in love with the world they’re discovering daily.

Cheers from the papa side of the blogosphere -
    Christian

  2. Christian -
You were one of the first dadbloggers I encountered back in January, thanks for stopping by! As for the title of the post, I was going off of the name of the blog, which is obviously Mommy-centered :-) It’s unfortunate, but true, that many mothers spend their free time bemoaning the lack of support from fathers and you’re a bright light in this area - you’re obviously a great dad and more than count!

As for the links to daddy blogs, would you mind sharing some with me? You can email me at kolson29@gmail.com if you have some or just leave them in a comment here. I’ve actually had a harder time finding those - I’d love to compile a list if you could help me out!

You’re suggestion to have dads guest-post is an excellent one and one that I’ll DEFINITELY take you up on - right now! I’ll send out a request, hopefully we’ll get some takers :-) Let me know if you’re interested in being part of this!

  3. Love to be part of it, however that works in conjunction with the team / vision you already have. Let’s talk. You can give me a prompt or a ‘border’ to work within, or however you want a papa voice to be added.

I’ll also give you some great daddy blogger suggestions but ground zero is to start with the “Blogfathers” network. You’ll notice a trend of fathers who have writing/marketing/advertising backgrounds who bring those sensibilities/attitude to the daddy-blogging realm. Great range of voices for you to explore. Also, look at “Childs Play x2″ blog (daddy to twins) and his blogroll; also a great resource.

But again, I’d be happy to write on behalf of this site as long as you give me a sense of how that would be useful. Maybe I’ll ask my wife to lend her voice, too. Email me at your convenience.

  8. P.S. (a few hours ‘late’)

Forgot to add the URL for the “Blogfathers” blog with a monster of a blogroll (or ‘team’ as I think one should call it in this case):

    http://www.theblogfathers.com/

As well as the URL for “Childs Play 2″ that is great on its own, and has a nifty little blogroll worth exploring:

Well worth checking out the fine work those daddy-bloggers have been doing for quite some time!

Again, thanks for the invite, Kate. Looking forward to contributing. If you need that initial Fathers Day post written, let me know. I’d be thrilled to do that initial offering.

  9. Thanks so much for the nice post about Dadosphere! My husband always complains that everything seems to be about the moms, so I hope this provides another avenue for dads to have their own space. :)
