The most compassionate thing to do is to say that I don't need to do house work! Thank you for this thread - Mark & I have had a great laugh.

Sarah,
Sounds to me like a compromise is in order: designate 1 or 2 windows as "bird watching stations" and leave the rest untouched. It's the compassionate thing to do ;-)

Thank you so much for this post, Diane. I have shown this post to my husband who is a bit of an ornithologist so am hoping that he agrees I shouldn't have to clean the windows - one less job to do! :)

PS: Blast, he's come up with an answer: how can he watch the birds if he can't see out of the windows!?

Kate,
I now feel justified in my laissez faire approach to housekeeping.

Lawschoolmom,
Well, our neighbor is a liquor salesman. That object d'art [I'm feeling cosmopolitan today] on top of our fridge is a molded plastic ice bucket advertising Sambuca. Very handy when entertaining - lift off the top of his skull and voila! cold cubes.

Diane, this is hilarious :-) Well, not for the bird, but that's exactly how my house is - the windows are only clean when my husband cleans them!
